When Claire and Colgate asked me to photograph their summer wedding in Rhode Island at Dragonline Studios, I knew it was going to be a special one. I love photographing summer weddings and there is no place I love more than my tinest of home states. Every detail of the day was a reflection of themselves and their love for Rhode Island, especially Jamestown. I had the best time capturing their day with a documentary approach because of how much attention they put into each aspect of their planning.
Getting ready in the house felt like being inside of a well-curated and well-lived-in museum, since Dragonline Studios is also the home and studio of an artist. In the upstairs space, Claire got ready with her bridal party against a panoramic backdrop of Narragansett Bay. In true fashion of summer in Rhode Island, it started raining briefly before the ceremony and then turned to a torrential downpour for a few moments before the sky cleared and gave us beautiful, golden light. After a ceremony on the lawn overlooking the water, everyone headed to the tent for cocktail hour and although it’s not always everyone’s dream to have rain on their wedding day, I think the brief shower created a really beautiful, intimate moment with everyone huddled inside. Before long, the sky cleared and Claire and Colgate’s guests returned to mingling on the lawn with gorgeous views of sunset.
After dinner and toasts, their DJ (and friend) turned a patio area outside the house into a full-on dance floor where everyone gathered beneath a clearing sky and hints of stars. I left feeling so thankful to have been a part of this day as Claire and Colgate’s photographer for their summer wedding in Rhode Island at Dragonline Studios.
