Nola and Curtis’s intimate brunch wedding at Milk & Roses in Brooklyn was the perfect example of how relaxed and beautiful a daytime celebration can be. With its quiet garden courtyard, warm interiors, and laid-back atmosphere, Milk & Roses created a cozy setting for a wedding that felt more like a gathering of close friends than a traditional event. As I walked around and caught some candid moments of guests together inside, I found myself wishing this place were in my own neighborhood (the books, the light, the beautiful interior design and details!) The couple chose a midday ceremony followed by brunch, natural light portraits, and an easygoing afternoon celebration. After taking a handful of portraits together, Nola and Curtis had their ceremony in front of the atrium area that separates the inside of the restaurant from the garden. The ceremony was a beautiful start to this celebration (we were extra lucky with a warm and sunny October day). After exchanging vows, we took some family portraits outside the front of the restaurant before everyone filtered inside for cocktail hour. The entire flow worked so well—as guests went inside to mingle and grab a drink, the venue staff transformed the outside garden area into a seated dining area for brunch. After food was served and the speeches/toasts, everyone jumped on the dance floor to keep the celebration going.

I think a brunch wedding can be done well anywhere, but because Brooklyn has so many fun, quirky brunch spots, it’s the perfect place to start the celebration earlier in the day. For couples who care about food, finding a restaurant venue that hosts weddings like Milk & Roses also ensures that the food is not an afterthought, as it sometimes can seem to be at more traditional wedding venues. A bonus of having a brunch wedding in Brooklyn at a space like Milk & Roses is that you get an entire day of natural light against a beautiful backdrop of their outdoor garden area. I sometimes see couples stressed with the logistics of a day or a crammed timeline. What I loved most about Nola and Curtis’s wedding day was that I could tell they were having the best day of their life. My goal as a wedding photographer is to support that simple objective in every way I can, and I think they did an incredible job picking a place where they could gather their closest friends and family together for what felt like an effortlessly cool and relentlessly fun celebration.
