Michelle and Michael held their intimate Cape Cod wedding in the backyard of Michael’s family home this past September. I love the Cape and was so excited to be able to photograph this day for them after we first talked since I knew it was going to be extra special. From the moment I arrived and saw the backyard, I knew it was going to be the most beautiful September wedding celebration full of classic, New England charm and a relaxed, beachy atmosphere. After their wedding ceremony overlooking the water, everyone returned to the house where a beautiful tented dinner awaited. Michelle and Michael thought through so many little details to incorporate their love for this place—they even collected shells from the beach on their walk that morning to decorate the tables. In short, the relaxed atmosphere of the day could not have been any better for a late summer wedding in Cape Cod.

One of my favorite parts of the day was the time we set aside to take portraits of the two of them, as well as some family photos overlooking the beach. One of the first things Michelle mentioned to me during our calls was that they would be expecting a baby in January and wanted to be sure to capture some photos of the two of them to show their child that they were there, too, someday. In under 20 minutes, we were able to find some beautifully soft light and shoot in some places by the water that held deep significance to them both.

Summertime here in New England can always be a bit tricky in terms of weather but Michelle and Michael lucked out with what I think was one of the nicest Saturdays, even if it was a bit cloudy. Just after their first dance, the sky opened up to give them an incredibly vibrant sunset which was truly magical to watch. After dinner and toasts, all of their friends and family gathered outside the tent to dance the rest of the night away. I left feeling so thankful to be a part of such a special day and honored to capture all of these moments with their friends and family.
