When Kelsey and Andrew reached out to me to photograph their Lippitt House Museum wedding in Providence, I was ecstatic. I’ve lived in this neighborhood of Providence for over a decade and walk by the Lippitt House Museum all of the time but I never had a chance to photograph a wedding there. As a lover of old, New England architecture, I was so excited to see the inside and capture their day. We ended up with a perfect summer afternoon in the city—one of those August days that’s not too hot but full of warmth.
The day began with Kelsey getting ready upstairs in one of the most beautiful rooms with ornate details and massive windows overlooking the street. I met up with Andrew downstairs shortly after and we prepared for their first look on the staircase. The stained glass windows on this multi-tiered staircase inside the Lippitt House Museum are nothing short of stunning. After taking some candid portraits of Kelsey and Andrew, guests started to arrive and take their seats outside where the ceremony would take place. The wedding party assembled around the corner, complete with Kelsey and Andrew’s dog in a bowtie. One of my favorite aspects of their ceremony was a reading from Phillip Pullman’s Amber Spyglass. After the ceremony and dinner, guests moved into one of the drawing rooms across the hallway and dances began. The layout of the house made their wedding celebration feel like one big party from another time with guests slipping outside to play lawn games by the fountain or talk in the main hallway.
