Hi there, if you’re just coming across this blog you’ve come at the right time because this is my first post in this space. I have been hard at work consolidating my online footprint into one cohesive space where I can share wedding as well as travel work. This is the beginning framework of that space—primarily a wedding portfolio but also an entry point into a blog that shares my own experiences shooting weddings, occasional tips or resources, and travel stories. In my head, it makes sense. In my head, I crave organization of all things. I can’t promise it’ll come out the same way I see it in my head, but here it goes.
I spent last week in Provincetown, Massachusetts with eight other friends of mine. It’s a yearly tradition I hold dear and this was our third year of going to Provincetown together and sharing a big house for a week. I love Provincetown on a different level than most other places I’ve traveled—it’s beyond love at this point and entering the territory of dependency. I crave the community of togetherness and love, the landscape of the dunes, and of course, the ocean surrounding me in nearly every direction while out there. I make the 2 1/2 hour drive out there for the New Year holiday and the start of summer, occasionally returning for weekends throughout the year, but this one week with friends is something beyond all of those visits. As I get older and travel more, I feel more connected to New England. That connection is strongest in Provincetown where I begin my days with very little on my mind aside from the tide and sunset times.
This last week, we spent hours on the beach, cooked big dinners, drank frozen pina coladas in the morning, strolled through town, had a fire at Race Point, and crushed more oysters than I can remember. I went for a long bike ride through the dunes one day and also walked all the way out to Long Point Light for the first time (I took the $20 water shuttle back to Macmillan Pier and definitely recommend doing that, it’s a long walk over sand). Another thing I love about Provincetown is its deep layers. I am still discovering new places, trying new things, and still having new experiences in this place I’ve run eagerly towards for 8 years.
There are very few places that I return to with this kind of frequency and regularity (Iceland is likely the close second). Right now, I am beginning to see that Provincetown is a long-form project for me, although what that project looks like is still shrouded in a bit of hazy uncertainty. I am reminding myself that I don’t need to tell the story, I need to tell my story. I don’t think I am ready to share too much yet and I still have a dozen rolls of film from this past week to process, but for now, here are a few quick images. I hope you enjoy them and stay tuned for more wedding and travel-related work in this space.
